A Caregiver is someone who provides assistance and support to disabled guests with a physical or mental impairment which substantially limits one or more major life activities and are unable to fully care for themselves during their visit. Parents are not considered Caregivers under this policy and are therefore ineligible for a Caregiver ticket. By purchasing the discounted Caregiver ticket, the Caregiver accepts full responsibility for supporting the accompanied disabled guest throughout the attraction visit.
This includes being able to provide them with assistance and support that may be necessary to aid the disabled guest in an emergency or evacuation situation. Merlin Entertainments staff are unable to aid more than their typical role so it’s important that the Caregiver understands the physical and emotional requirements of the disabled guest to always ensure their safety. Caregivers must remain with the disabled guest for the duration of the visit or stay. The provision of a Caregiver Ticket is separate to any Line Assist/Ride Access/Hero Pass (or equivalent) provision for guests with long term health conditions or disabilities who are unable to queue for prolonged periods of time.
Documentation may be requested upon request to confirm the need for a caregiver without disclosing specific medical diagnoses or personal health information of the disabled guest. Any documentation will be reviewed solely to verify eligibility and will be handled with strict confidentiality. No copies will be retained, and any documentation viewed will be immediately returned to the individual.
To verify caregiver eligibility, the following types of documentation may be requested:
· A brief letter or note from a licensed healthcare provider stating that the guest requires a caregiver or support person.
· Official caregiver identification if employed by a recognized caregiving agency.
· Documentation showing enrolment in a government or state sponsored caregiver assistance program.
· In states which have In-Home Supportive Services an approval letter or pay stub, shall suffice.
